Sustainability FAQs

Q1: What makes ALES GREY™ The Frontline Pro 3 shoes different from other footwear brands?

Unlike most of the 99% if the shoes imported from overseas, ALES GREY™ builds Algae-based, recyclable, and circular footwear locally — cutting emissions, improving quality, and supply chain transparency.

Q2: Why is U.S. manufacturing so important to your mission?

It allows us to avoid overseas emissions and tariffs, create green American jobs, and maintain the highest quality standards in labor and environmental safety.

Q3: How are your shoes “carbon-negative”?

We use low-emission materials like algae, manufacture locally, and plant mangrove trees that sequester more carbon than each pair produces — making our impact climate-positive.

Q4: What kind of packaging do you use in the new Frontline Pro 3?

All our new Frontline Pro 3 packaging is made by SWAY a seaweed based compostable polybags bags that break down naturally without leaving harmful microplastics behind and excess packaging behind.

Q5: What materials are used in each generation?

Gen 1 (Italy): Post-production recycled materials Gen 2 (Mexico): Agricultural organic waste-based biofoam Gen 3 (USA): Algae-based foam + recycled materials ( This is the most sustainable of the three product generations )

Q6: What’s next for ALES GREY™?

We’re just getting started. Our goal is to become the world’s leading circular footwear company and eliminating plastic pollution in footwear. We want to reshape the industry, and building the most sustainable shoes ever made 100% Made in America.

Q7: What’s the difference between Bio-Based, Recycled, Algae-Based, and Compostable Shoes?

Bio-Based means the materials are made partially from renewable natural sources like plants or agricultural waste. Some bio-based foams including ours may still contain a portion of traditional EVA (a plastic-based material) to maintain performance and durability.

Recycled refers to materials that are recovered and reused, either from post-production waste (like leftover factory scraps) or post-consumer products. At ALES GREY™, we incorporate post-production recycled materials and some post consumer shoes that are ground up to reduce waste and close the loop.

Algae-Based is a form of bio-based material that uses rapidly renewable algae to replace a portion of petroleum-based foam, helping reduce carbon emissions. Some Algae-based foams including ours may still contain a portion of traditional EVA (a plastic-based material) to maintain performance and durability.

Compostable means the material can break down naturally in composting conditions, returning safely to the earth without leaving harmful residues.

Right now, our shoes are made with a mix of bio-based, algae-based, and recycled materials but they are not fully compostable yet. We’re actively working toward a fully biodegradable, circular shoe in the near future. Stay tuned we’re making progress with every generation.

Thank you to everyone that supports our mission of making the world ( A-LESS-GREY )
